My personal journey through Acts

Acts 1:4-8

Morning devotions

Jesus gave commands to his disciples after His resurrection. In verse 4, He gave them a specific command: Why?

My answer:

In order for prophecy to be fulfilled, for the Gospel message to be spread from Jerusalem and to the rest of the world, they had to stay put.

Jesus told them they would be “clothed with power from on high” and receive what God had promised them.

He said, “Do not leave Jerusalem.” Wait for the gift. John baptized with water, but they would be baptized with the Holy Spirit = like Jesus.

When Jesus was baptized it was different. God identified Jesus in front of the crowd that He was the Son of God and He was pleased with Him.

Then the Holy Spirit descended like a dove fulfilling a covenant from Noah. The dove had left Noah and did not return. It returned to Jesus and symbolized the hope that Jesus would bring to all nations. He was the fulfillment of the hope covenant. Hope of heaven and eternal life because the final Passover Sacrifice Jesus would fulfill.

The death of perfection to atone humanity for all time, past, present and future generations – which offers eternal life for all those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah, the Redeemer = our Savior.

Praise His glorious name.

In verses 6-8 what stands out to you?

The disciples seem to skip the miracle wonder of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. They jump ahead and continue to desire Jesus to have Him be King and set up His kingdom on earth. He rebukes them one more time before ascending into Heaven. “It’s not for you to know”

What do you think about the Great Commission?

It’s my favorite. I love to share Jesus. This life is so much better.
