You cannot walk into a room of 8th graders and not love every single one of them as their teacher, you cannot accomplish a successful day of teaching without speaking to them, listening to their questions and giving them your heart every single day. Faith and love expressed is action, and that is what James said, you will be known by what you do – your actions express your intent. You act out of love, or else love never existed in the first place. It’s like saying 2+2 but not saying =4. James simply reminds us that IF we say that we love Jesus, we will show that we do by our actions, and those actions cannot be fake, they are “without even thinking about it”. Like when you walk into your classroom and say “hello students, how was your day”, you don’t force yourself to do that – you do it because you genuinely care about your kids.
