In the beginning, brought Time into existence in a crazy powerful way. The only attempt I can make to describe it, allowed me to develop a strong, personal, powerful, and life-long relationship with my Creator. The other option is to crumble into darkness. It’s really that simple.
God created. He is the Creator.
“Nice to see you,” He says.
Friend, I am going to show you what happened in my mind while reading Genesis 1 again. How many times have I read this? I am not sure, but this time was special because my imagination ran wild and I pretended that I was there with Him and I could see it all happen. He held my hand, of course, because it was all quite terrifying to be in a place that was so different from the desk I once sat at.
It was cozy there inside my house, at my desk, in my familiar cozy chair, a place I visit every morning. I had just sat down with such excited expectations for my time with my Creator. It was a new day. Early morning had not allowed the two munchkin miracles to wake yet, silence surrounded me as the birds were still kept quiet by The Creator. It was just me and Him and a yummy, warm cup of coffee.
Suddenly, Imagination tapped me on the shoulder, “He is calling you to come,” she said. “He is taking you to a place you need to go. It is exciting and different, a new way of experiencing Him, and I’ll take you there. You can be here and there at the same time, but I want you to be more with me for a minute so you can see His artistry, not just read the words on paper as you have before. Do you understand?”
I never complain when Imagination comes and takes me when my Bible is open. It’s a fun journey and she always has the Holy Spirit with her so I know I am safe. Sometimes she scares me at night when she comes all by herself. I have learned to pray about that and trust my Creator, and this happens a lot less, and I am thankful to Him for that.
“Let’s go,” I say to my imagination.
So off we went – to the beginning of time. She hands me off to Jesus and we stand there together with God and the Holy Spirit – Three-In-One, and acting in their own perfection. That alone was amazing to see, and as time started ticking away, I looked down and I could see how He created me too. I could see my three. I was glowing, but it wasn’t me. I was simply reflecting the Divinity of God, but my soul was there and so was The Holy Spirit – He was connected to Himself inside of Jesus and I could see Jesus scars, because we were outside of time in that moment, and His scars were there as evidence of my Salvation and the presence of the Holy Spirit within me.
I held his hand tighter and I cried. “I’m so sorry,” I said. “If I could only stop, I would! Lord, I love you.”
He took the perfection of the two scars which are permanently in his hands and cupped my face and like a good Father, He kissed my forehead. Held in the embrace of a perfect dad, all the sadness in my life disappeared. I was able to be transported to eternity for a very overwhelming second. It was wonderful. I tasted His forgiveness like the sweetest and most satisfying honey. It was comfort like nothing I had ever experienced before.
“Thank you, Father, for everything.”
He smiled and said, “Do you see what I asked Time to bring with him? Heavens and Earth!” They both smile and wave at me and present themselves with a very happy and kind of awkward bow.
I giggle. “Lord, this is wonderful. How nice to meet all of you.”
Heaven and Earth begin the most ridiculous game of tag I have ever seen. Jesus tips his head back and chuckles.
God created them with the power of Jesus, and all of their combined creativity. His divine nature is fully exposed in this moment. In Spirit, He speaks and life happens. His voice rumbles, in a wonderful calm and controlled manner, commanding His authority over all things. He speaks and life happens. His voice orchestrates all I see. He commands life into order, perfect order.
God speaks and all of heaven is contained and is created. He speaks and earth becomes beautiful and aware. The Creator now focuses His attention on earth.
“Settle down little one, pay attention now,” I hear in my head, and she walks up to him and listens attentively.
Earth was still formless and empty and darkness covered her deep waters. She moved about like a child full of energy. “My elements exist within you, Earth, I have so much to tell you but we will do this one step at a time,” I imagine he speaks to her. She patiently awaits His next command with anticipation marked all over her movements.
Suddenly, the Holy Spirit hovers over her waters. “Shhh,” he said.
The Creator declared, “Let there be light”.
Light exploded all around us. I imagine the birth of unrestricted light and this thought was too much for me, and I cover my face in both of my arms. The Creator places his hands over my eyes and says, “Look and see, child, it isn’t too much, this is your imagination, we can do this together.”
I opened my eyes and I saw the light fresh and new and wonderful. With the light, I could see how deep water was inside earth. Eternity existed within her waters, there was no end to it’s deepness. Nothing shaded the light. Light came and settled and kissed my hand, sparkles were left behind and I covered the back of my hand to keep it there forever. Divine light has come into the world and into the heavens and has become part of them. Never to be separated.
“Light,” declared God, “you are good.” Yet, He did not say that about the darkness. Only the light. He separated the light from the darkness. I understood, with wisdom from the Holy Spirit, that darkness is consumed by light and The Creator makes no mistakes. He knew His powerful light exposed to darkness would destroy the darkness, and this truth was from the beginning. But darkness had its purpose, and this wonderful mystery is also from the beginning. Separation was essential and darkness remained.
“Light, you will be given the name Day, and darkness, you will now be called night.” Jesus explained.
The darkness passed when Light appeared and the separation created by the supreme Creator allowed both to exist inside time. Evening belonged to night and morning became part of the day. This was the creation of the first day and it was glorious. All of creation rested from it’s grand awakening and The Creator Himself sighed in satisfaction as he anticipated his own rest which would come in about 6 days.
The earth spun around as she rejoiced in her first memory. What a beautiful display of joy. Her water raged in unabashed splendor, surrounding her like the flurl of a beautiful dress, swaying in and out as she enjoyed the dawn of a new day. How deep and glorious was her water, with no end, no beginning, just richness of new creation with no boundaries and no limitations. Her water spilled out and reached all other created things. Light played tag with the night, and God knew that He must bring these innocent and new beings into order and into their permanent places inside his Creation. For the last moments of their joyful expressions, he poured out more joyful blessings on them.
“Will they need these memories to help them through what is to come?” I wonder.
Their newness sparkles. Joy poured out from the glory of the face of Their Creator and they basked in its power. Jesus anticipated Creation’s permanent form and began to move His hands to show me their structure and boundaries before He shared the news with them. I am excited to see this next step.
I stood back and watched as Jesus spoke and all of Creation stoped in wonder of His Glory. He spoke a declaration of Separation.
“Let there be a space between the waters!” He declared.
Water that knew no boundaries, no end, no division now obeyed and what was revealed was marvelous. This happened! Separation of waters was spoken and existed in an instant. The separation was beautiful and reflected the color of the water. Separation appeared and Earth changed. God made this separation, and called it Sky. This was heaven’s new name, and she was created to divide the waters of the earth and the waters of the heavens.
Both earth and sky got water! Sharing this gift brought sky and earth together in a symbiotic relationship of love and friendship. Water was heaven’s gift from earth distributed by the Creator Himself. Wow! What a sight!
Another terrific sigh of satisfaction was felt by all of Creation as Time allowed another day to pass. They all rested in their new permanent places of separation, it was time to enjoy another evening and light closed her eyes to wonder what day three would bring.
Everyone woke with a start, there was no time for dancing or playing today. God woke everyone up and they could all see His excitement. Today was a big day. He commanded water again, phew, water exclaimed! Me again! How exhilarating!
Water’s command today from God was big. “Let the water beneath the sky flow together in one place, so dry ground will appear.”
Water began to move rapidly and instantaneously. God had commanded her to move and so she moved! She obeyed and thought, “Boy this is big.”
Ground appeared beneath her. Earth was changed in an instant and lies exposed, bare and dry. The ground became dry because it was void of the moisture of the water in which it existed beneath. God called the dry ground, Land, and so land appeared. He called the water which was all bunched up and playful, Seas, and so land and sea were new and given their places on earth.
“Oh taste and Sea that God is good,” thinks Sea, knowing full well that she will be properly and perfectly misquoted centuries later.
God now placed his hands on them and blessed them. Land whispers to Sea, “did you hear him? Did you hear what He just said?”
She smiled back at him and said, “Yes, I did, He said, You are both good!”
The Creator declared with a massive smile on His face, He said with all his glory, “Yes, you are good.”
They gave each other a massive hug and smiled at one another. What happened next was my favorite part, I think, but I still don’t know.
Water rested in her new home and sat back to watch her Creator as he poised himself towards land. Land realized that the Creator was looking at him and stood at attention like a warrior.
God said to him, “Sprout with vegetation.”
At that instant, I saw the grandest display of color I have ever seen, and of depth and breadth that cannot be described, even with the help of my imagination. I am blown away by what I see. Enormous trees drive their roots into the ground, having not grown but called into existence, not formed from seed, but called into being as a fully developed Creation. Roots merrily dance through land and land laughs out loud causing all of creation to laugh and shake with it.
“Stop!” Land cries out in joy! “that tickles!”
Trees, I still wonder about you. I think you are still so aware and so ready for Creator’s next command, you were silenced for a time, but still have so much to say. You speak the language of peace and purpose, protection and majesty. I am in awe of witnessing your creation and will always glorify God that I was able to imagine that I was there on the day of your birth.
Land thinks God is done as trees settle into place, but behold! Land suddenly becomes lush and green as grass flourishes and spreads over his whole body, gone is the dry and brown land and suddenly he becomes fluffy and green, grass brings moisture and water back to his surface and he is no longer dry.
“Wow!” Land exclaimes, “this feels wonderful.”
I imagine God replies, “Yes, but now you have to shave,” and I thought I saw land kind of slump his shoulders a tiny bit. I imagine God’s perfect humor. I can’t wait to laugh at His perfect jokes in heaven one day, with perfect timing and hear his perfect laughter.
Vegetation spreads all over the land. Flowers bloom in all the right places, creating clusters of color too wonderful to describe. Bushes bloom with unique buds, fruit grows from the heights of the trees.
“This is new life!” I celebrate in awe!
God declares the miracle of the seed in his next expression of love. He commands that seeds be produced from these plants, and trees will also produce seeds inside it’s fruit. The seeds will multiply and produce new life, new life exactly like the plant it came from. One kind will reproduce it’s exact same kind. The seeds will produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came. This all happened in an instant. Poof and wow!
The land did all this in loving obedience to his Maker, his Creator, and it was a joyful expression of respect. Nothing was done out of order, it was all exactly as the Creator desired, commanded and expected.
God saw what he had accomplished so far and he rejoiced and spread his arms out in celebration. Time came in at just the right moment and with him came the evening carving out the boundaries of the next passing day. Gone into God’s treasury was the memories of the third day and all of creation rested while God planned his next day, day four.
I curled up into the arms of the largest tree and fell asleep, fully wrapped up in the comfort of the Holy Spirit and my imagination, resting in joyful anticipation of what would happen next in my journey through His Creation with Jesus and God the Father, the Great Three in One.
