I am a tree
and I grew in Gethsemane
I was a seed
but now I am fully grown
my roots are deep indeed
and I am known
He found me
he loved me first
he sat with me
and I heard every single word
He spoke to his Father
they fellowshipped together all night
I heard their conversation
and what was spoken became light
I am a tree
and I grew in Gethsemane
I grew to love
the Creator of the world
I have been given life
by what was seen and heard
he touched my skin
and what I felt within
What I felt within…
was anguish like no other
“please,” he said, “Father”
take this cup from me
yet, your will be done
please, help me
they can’t see…
i wonder what is happening
He’s never cried with this sound
the tears are pouring down
I can taste His blood
soaking the ground
it penetrates my roots
and then i understand
I am a tree
and I have a testimony
you will hear me as I say
as I watched what happened that day
they took the ax
and I fell to the ground
I knew my purpose
he spoke
without a sound
they fashioned a cross
after scourging my Lord
they tied me to His shoulder
this was His reward?
for offering salvation
for extending his hand
why don’t they understand
on Golgotha I’m now standing
as they nail his hands and feet
the sap is oozing from my skin
my tears run down so sweet
as I hold up my Creator
the reason for my breath
they killed me first
so I could hold him “till his death
I am a tree!
i know you can hear me now
and i grew in Gethsemane
I was a seed
but now I am fully grown
my roots are deep indeed
can you see?
He died for you and me
he cried out in anguish
“it is finished” and he won
and the chains of sin
are eternally undone!
I am the cross
where love poured out
I am the place
where sin and doubt
were destroyed with a shout
Jesus suffered and died
and I held him as he cried
I was once a tree
and I grew in Gethsemane
in Gethsemane
