Why Trek? Awana Ministries – by Simply Swank

Why Trek?

This Middle School Pragram acts as the foundational precursor to apologetics. Instead of focusing on dense academic debate, Trek teaches 7th and 8th graders how to own their faith by wrestling with the core biblical data behind the questions they are actively asking.

The curriculum structure allows middle schoolers to transition from simple Bible memorization to building a robust Christian worldview.

The Three-Year Trek Cycle:

The program rotates through three major studies that address the core components of a biblical worldview:

His Story: Focuses on the overarching narrative of the Bible, answering the foundational question: “Who is God?”

His Love: Focuses on identity and the gospel, answering the critical developmental question: “Who am I?”

His People: Focuses on biblical community through the Book of Acts, answering the relationship question: “Who is with me?”

How Trek Lays the Groundwork for Apologetics:

Worldview Formation: Before a student can defend what they believe (apologetics), they must understand what they believe. Trek systematically unpacks doctrine so students understand the mechanics of Christian truth.

Scriptural Mastery: Traditional apologetics relies heavily on extra-biblical data like science and history. Trek prioritizes deep immersion in Scripture so students have a primary text to stand on.

Safe Doubt: The curriculum is designed to let middle schoolers safely “wrestle” with tough questions in small groups before hitting the cultural pressures of high school.
