The Long Division Family Poem

Long division can feel like a mountain to climb,
But you can master it, one step at a time!
Think of a family that’s always in view:
Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother, and Rover the dog too!

Divide is the first step, as Dad takes the lead,
See how many times the outside number will fit into the seed.
Put that first little number right up on the crown,
You’re starting off strong, don’t you dare look down!

Multiply next, as Mom joins the race,
Times that top number by the one outside the space.
Write the product below, neat as a pin,
You’ve got the momentum, you’re ready to win!

Subtract comes Sister, with a minus so clean,
Find the difference between the two numbers you’ve seen.
Check that it’s smaller than the divisor out wide,
You’re doing amazing, keep up that pride!

Bring down says Brother, for the very next part,
Slide the next number over, with fire in your heart.
Now look at the bottom, a new challenge is there,
Take a deep breath, you’re handling this with care!

Repeat or Remainder, is what Rover will say,
Go back to the start, or you’ve finished the day!
If a number is left over and nothing is down,
Put an R with that remainder right up on the crown
