Feeling Lonely

“Today is a hard day,” I said with a frown.

Today my best friend packed his bags and left town.

He left me right here on my front porch stoop.

My head in my hands and my shoulders, they droop.

I’m lonely, that guy was my very best buddy.

I went to his house every day to get muddy.

We would play on the rock and the swing in the back.

We would play with the toys on my back in the sack.

I don’t know how I will pass all my days.

alone in this house as I turn and I gaze

and I say to my mom, “hey mom, I am sad.”

I’m lonely and I’m feeling so very bad.

and mom said she knows that lonely is not fun.

She said, “Bow your head and pray little one.”

God is always with you and you don’t need to feel sad

He lives in your heart, so you can always feel glad

Pray when you feel like you’re having a hard time

and prayer is so strong, it can make you feel fine.

Give to God what you’re feeling, and just talk to Him

Trust in the Lord, and don’t feel so grim.

So I bowed prayed with my mom and my dad

and I told God, I am lonely and feeling so bad

I missed my best bud and I just want to play

to go outside, get dirty and have a fun day

I wanted a friend to laugh with and chase

To swing with, to run with and race a fun race.

So I gave it to God and trusted His way

I felt kinda better and went about my day.

Then when I woke, and the next day came

I looked outside and it started to rain.

But through the rain I squinted to see

a moving van had pulled up to the house next to me.

Out of the van jumped a boy, HE was just my size!

He looked all around with worried-blue-eyes.

Oh Boy! I ran outside excited and happy

“Hi,” I said! “My name is Cash, want to be my buddy?”

We can jump in this puddle right in your back yard!

We can swing on this swing, look, it isn’t hard!

He looked really happy and said, “oh man, YES!

Look at my new yard, isn’t it the best!?”

Then I remembered that lonely feeling

and how I had prayed and felt all the healing

now God had blessed me with a new best buddy

and I laughed when I saw my pants were all muddy.

Praying and talking about the things that I feel

is healthy and good and makes it all real.

I shouldn’t keep it in, all jumbled and strange.

I can talk and get help and start to arrange

My thoughts and my feelings and that is way better.

We can help sort it out by talking together.
