what is left
for him to gain
when all he feels
is greedy pain
money roles
around his head
nonsense left
might as well be dead
efforts made
His whole dang life
met with sorrow,
worry, strife
wish he loved them
more than it
wish he wasn’t
such a shit
sweeter, kinder
made more time
now they couldn’t
give a dime
thought was best
time better spent
now the money
is all to vent
all he has to
comfort, fool
sick and dying
sorry, cruel
pain, it rots
His torment mind
wish he listened
nothing’s fine
she was right
she warned, with care
yet, he scoffed
And split the pair
alone at last
no nagging guilt
money filled
He let love wilt
I’ll work right now
save each last cent
then I’ll be set
when they are bent
yet, sick came fast
He’s not that old
rotting soul
truth be told
money saved
His whole life to
end up empty
A rich old shrew
Death came down
took him away
and what was left
A lesson, I’d say
keep your greed
locked tight away
lest you suffer
the old man’s way
1 Timothy 6:17-19
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
